Wellesley Hills, MA – November 10, 2009 – Scott Zolak, 98.5 The Sports Hub, Tolerx and JDRF are teaming up to “Defeat Diabetes” and will celebrate Diabetes Awareness Month by raising money for the JDRF throughout the month of November, including  a special event on Tuesday, November 17th, from 6-8 PM at Champions in the Boston Marriott Copley Place. The first 100 fans who donate $25 or more to JDRF will receive a 98.5 the Sports Hub t-shirt, an autographed photo of Scott Zolak, and a ticket to this celebration.  More information about the campaign can be found by visiting our website at www.jdrf.org/baystate, as or www.tolerx.com/DefeatDiabetes.

Scott Zolak is the voice of the Defeat Diabetes campaign.  The campaign features commercials, which air on the Sports Hub and during Patriots games, as well as on-air and on-line auctions of two front row Patriots tickets each month of the Patriots regular season.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Tolerx and forging a relationship with 98.5 The Sports Hub and Scott Zolak to raise awareness of diabetes and the need for a cure,” said Heidi Daniels, CFRE, Executive Director, JDRF New England Chapter.  “Working together, we can achieve our goal of defeating this disease.”

“I think the awareness of type 1 diabetes that results  from this partnership among the Patriots Radio Network, TOLERX, and the JDRF is important and much needed, especially given my situation at home.  Partnerships like this are encouraging to parents with kids suffering from type 1 diabetes.  I am proud to be a part of the defeat diabetes campaign, I thank TOLERX for their support, and look forward to seeing everyone on the 17th at Champions,” stated Scott Zolak – 98.5 The Sports Hub/Patriots Radio Network

About JDRF
JDRF is the leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.  Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.3 billion to diabetes research, including more than $156 million in FY2008. In FY2008 the Foundation funded more than 1,000 centers, grants and fellowships in 22 countries.  For more information, visit the JDRF Web site at www.jdrf.org/baystate or call 781-431-0700.  To register for the Walk to Cure Diabetes or to support a Walker, visit http://walk.jdrf.org.
