CHAMPIONS BOSTON ‘HOME OPENER’ CELEBRATION SET FOR OCTOBER 1st
Opening celebration includes one of a kind live auction featuring New England sports memorabilia to benefit The Yawkey Family Inn at Children’s Hospital Boston

BOSTON, MA (October 1, 2009) – The new Champions has fast become Boston’s hottest entertainment and sports watching destination and the new sports bar is set for the grand opening party on Thursday, October 1, 2009.  Guests will enjoy the ultimate viewing experience as the playoff bound Red Sox take on the Cleveland Indians and watch the Bruins take to the ice for the first time at their home opener—all on Champions 12’ x 24’ projection screen. Party goers will snack on favorites from the Champions’ bar menu like; Asian Tuna Nachos, Miami Pressed Sandwiches and Grandmas Meatballs!  WEEI afternoon host Michael Holly will be on hand for an exclusive live auction including cherished New England sports memorabilia previously on display at Champions’ original location, with all proceeds benefitting The Yawkey Family Inn at Children’s Hospital Boston.

“Our sincere thanks goes to Champions and the Boston Marriott Copley Place for their generous efforts to help us in our mission as we continue fundraising efforts to cover renovation costs and build a  future endowment for the home,” said Douglas Karp, Task Force Chairman for the Yawkey Family Inn. “Through the funds raised at Champions’ opening party, patient families staying at the home will continue to have safe and convenient housing allowing them to focus on what’s most important; participating in their children’s treatment and recovery.”

Items up for bid include:

  • A Ted Williams autographed poster
  • Jerseys from Celtics greats like Robert Parish and John Havliceck
  • Bleacher seats from the original Boston Garden
  • A once-in-a-lifetime London-Patriots package including round-trip tickets on British Airways, a hotel stay and tickets to see the Patriots take on the Buccaneers at Wembley Stadium!

“We’re proud to officially launch the new Champions in its new location with an opening party fit for a Championship city,” said David Giblin, General Manager of the Boston Marriott Copley Place. “Working with the The Next Generation Developers Task Force, who was the driving team behind the completion of the The Yawkey Family Inn, has inspired us to go above and beyond to raise even more funds for the home based on the teams’ commitment and passion for the Inn’s short term and long term needs.”

*Opening event is by invitation only.
