NEW CHAMPIONS TO DEBUT AT BOSTON MARRIOTT COPLEY PLACE THIS SUMMER

BOSTON – June 8, 2009 – Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) is launching the re-invention of its popular Champions restaurant brand at the Boston Marriott Copley Place this summer.  The sleek, modern restaurant features the largest HD projection screen in Boston (at 12 x 24 feet), over 40 flat panel televisions and a technologically advanced sound system, for a superior viewing experience.  Together with an all-American grill menu, 36 beers on tap, and numerous cocktail offerings, Champions promises to become one of Boston’s newest entertainment and dining destination.

“There have been so many exciting innovations in audio visual technology over recent years, it allows us to make a sports bar more than just a place to grab a drink,” said Robin Uler, Marriott’s chief creative officer.  “The new Champions combines beautiful, contemporary design, the latest in technology, and a bar menu comprised of the freshest, best quality ingredients.”

Designed by the global architectural firm, Gensler, Champions takes advantage of a new location on the hotel’s second floor, at the crossroads of the Copley Place Mall and the Shops at the Prudential Center.  From this prized perch, Champions overlooks a bustling pedestrian thoroughfare, accessed by 14,000 people on an average day.  The restaurant’s open, circular design is reminiscent of the European piazza – the beloved outdoor gathering place where people eat, drink, play games, read the paper and listen to sporting events.  The curvilinear bar area provides unobstructed views of an impressive 12 x 24 foot high-definition viewing screen, and more than 40 plasma, high-definition screens.  A curved wall of LED lights subtly changes color throughout the day, ushering the space from morning into night, and creating the different moods required by a three-meal-a-day restaurant.  Champions has 95 seats in the bar area and 160 seats in the restaurant, with a variety of options for guests gathering in smaller or larger groups.  In addition, two versatile private dining rooms seat 60 each, and feature fully customizable audio/visual options.  In addition, there is one semi-private room for up to 20 guests.

“Champions is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood and the city,” said Boston Marriott Copley Place General Manager David Giblin.  "It’s got so much to offer, and we expect it will attract a diverse group -- from sports fans, to the after work cocktail crowd, to foodies looking for a great meal.  We aim to make Champions to be a real gathering place, and we look forward to introducing it to our guests, neighbors and friends this summer.”

Eat
Champions offers an approachable and affordable all-American bar menu.  Guests enjoy a wide selection of “group bites” perfect for sharing during game time, after a day of shopping, or before heading over to the nearby Theatre District.  “Sharing” highlights include; giant soft pretzels with a cheddar fondue made with Samuel Adams Lager for dipping; four varieties of wings, including traditional buffalo or spicy kung pao; five types of nachos, including seared tuna nachos with wonton crisps, or bbq pork potato chip nachos.  The sandwich menu features traditional game-time favorites, such as the Fenway Dog --  a mighty foot-long half-pounder, fully loaded with sautéed onions, chili, mushrooms, cheddar, sauerkraut and yellow mustard -- or the Philly Cheese Steak -- shaved beef, onions and provolone on an original amoroso roll; as well as a really great build-your-own-burger, with a choice of angus beef patty, grilled chicken breast or a giant marinated mushroom cap, in addition to more than a dozen upgrades.  For a taste of New England, Champions serves its own award-winning clam chowder, Point Judith Calamari, Rhode Island style with pepperoncini and a Boston Lobster Roll.  Health-conscious diners savor hummus with grilled pita bread and celery; a quesadilla salad with crispy green chile-cheese quesadilla, topped with mixed greens, black beans corn, avocado and tomatoes with chile-lime vinaigrette; or a Mediterranean roll-up with grilled vegetables, cucumber, olives, feta and tzatiki.  The Champions desert menu includes Cupcake Monday -- a giant cupcake, stuffed with ice cream and over-loaded with fudge and candy --  and the Triple Play Sundae, served with a gooey chocolate brownie base, and strawberry and hot fudge toppings.

Drink
With 36 domestic, craft and imported beers on tap, Champions offers one of the largest beer selections in Boston’s Back Bay.  The extensive beverage menu encompasses a wide variety of traditional cocktails, as well as creative signatures, such as the Pomegranate Sidecar (Grand Marnier, Courvoisier) and the Sideline Cooler (Ketel One Vodka, Cucumber, Lime).  In addition, an array of non-alcoholic beverages is available, such as Ipswich Massachusetts very own Mercury Brewing’s all-american, old-fashioned bottled Cream Soda Pop or Root Beer Soda Pop made in the craft brewing tradition. Champions also has a generous selection of wine, available both by the bottle and by the glass.
